My first month of blogging was August. And I made money. I thought it was going to be a long and complicated process, but I had studied up from other bloggers and looking at their income reports, and learned what I needed to do to make my blog profitable.
The first lesson I learned was to become an affiliate.
I started off with Amazon because, nowadays, it feels like Amazon is the center of the universe when it comes to convenience and shopping. Do I need paper towels? Amazon. Do I need something cute for my desk but functional to stay organized? Amazon. Do I want some cute pens to double as props for blog posts? Duh, Amazon.
It seemed almost comically simple. But being an Amazon affiliate takes a while to pay off as well.
So where else did I become an affiliate?
I am an affiliate through Siteground, which is who I host this website through. I made my first commission through them, recommending their awesome service. For any blogger, being self-hosted is a necessity for monetizing your blog. And Siteground offers amazing deals for new bloggers starting off.
I am an affiliate for Grammarly, The World’s Best Automated Proofreader, which is an amazing service that I recommend to anyone who needs their work to sound professional and appropriate for the task. (I even used the free version with my students as an easy way to show them proofreading!)
But what else did I do to make money?
Well, I advertised my teacher products on Pinterest and scheduled my pins through Tailwind (Use this link to get your first month free, on me!). I feel like most of my blog traffic and store traffic come through Pinterest. I mean, when I am in a rut during the school year and need to find a quick substitute lesson plan, I turn to Pinterest too. There’s something about being able to visualize a lesson when you see it on Pinterest.
Really, that’s it.
I just became an affiliate, and advertised through Pinterest, simple right?
Of course, it’s going to take consistent effort over months to reach anywhere near the amount of money that would replace my teacher salary, but I am positive it is going to pay off.
Using these methods I made my first $52 dollars of passive income.
